Global Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (GIPER), Kashipur is situated in the foothills of the great Himalayas and is around 49 kilometres from the Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve. It is managed by the KMT (Krishna Memorial Trust) which is known for supporting institutes imparting quality education. Today GIPER is a knowledge powerhouse and a brand name in pharmaceutical sciences and its foundation was laid by Dr. A.K. Saxena, a well-known name in the field of pharmacy, who had the desire to provide quality education and other essential services to the people of the region. The concept of GIPER was also endorsed by internationally renowned scientists and they showed their support by gracing, International Seminar on Pharmaceutical Education & Research (ISPER) in the first year of its establishment. This event further highlighted the significance of GIPER and made it the first institute in India to hold an international meet in its very first year of inception, attended by scientists from USA, Germany, Russia, South Africa, Egypt etc.

The laboratory has been given a central and distinctive role in science education, and science educators have suggested that rich benefits in learning accrue from using laboratory activities. We are living in an era of dramatic new technology resources and new standards in science education in which learning by inquiry has been given renewed central status.
Science educators have expressed the view that uniqueness of the laboratory lies principally in providing students with opportunities to engage in processes of investigation and inquiry. GIPER believes that activities inside the laboratories allow the student to learn through understanding and also engaging in constructing knowledge through science. In GIPER the concept of laboratory is to vary the learning environment in which students develop their understanding of scientific concepts, science inquiry skills, and perceptions of science by creating a learning environment in which students can work cooperatively in small groups to investigate scientific phenomena.
GIPER has the requisite labs for the students which include:
3. Pharmaceutical Chemistry
7. Pharmaceutical Analysis
Pharmaceutical Analysis Lab :Pharmaceutical Analysis is one of the most important specialized branches of Pharmaceutical Sciences which is involved with the Quality Control of Pharmaceutical Products. Pharmaceutical analysis provides information on the identity, purity, content and stability of starting materials, excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). A distinction is made between analysis of the pure active ingredients used to cure, alleviate, prevent or identify illnesses and diseases (active ingredient analysis) and analysis of medicinal preparations.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry Lab :The laboratory of pharmaceutical chemistry is one of the central important branches of the institute. It is equipped with state of the art facilities to undertake academics in Bachelor of pharmacy course. In this lab, students learn about synthesis of pharmaceuticals compounds, its re-crystallisation (purification), identification and analysis.
Pharmaceutics Lab :Pharmaceutics is the discipline of pharmacy that deals with all facets of the process of turning a new chemical entity (NCE) into a medication able to be safely and effectively used by patients in the community. Pharmaceutics is the science of dosage form design. Pharmaceutics deals with the formulation of a pure drug substance into a dosage form. Branches of pharmaceutics include: It is the study of relationships between drug formulation, delivery, disposition and clinical response.
Pharmacology Lab :A separate laboratory is provided for this department. The main objective of this Laboratory as to provide the deep knowledge of body parts and therapeutic effects of drugs on various tissue and organs of body . Various minor experiments are conducted on human blood, determination of B.P. Haemoglobin, E.S.R., D.L.C. & T.L.C., Detection of Blood groups & also provides the knowledge about health education and used of first aid in emergency.
Pharmacognosy Lab :Plant materials are used throughout developed and developing countries as home remedies, over the counter drug products and raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. The plant material is prepared for microscopically examination and the anatomical features of the powdered drugs are recorded in order to compare the structures present with those drawn and described in the relevant monographs. At the end of the lab course, students are able to interpret the morphological and anatomical descriptions of the crude plant in order to clearly identify it.
Microbiology Lab: Microbiology is the study of microorganisms. It is one of the fastest growing areas of science, is the study of organisms so small that they must be viewed with a microscope. These organisms are primarily bacteria, yeasts, melds, and viruses. The air conditioned lab of institute is well equipped with laminar air flow, incubator, auto clave, hot air oven etc.
The institute has separate hostels for boys and girls which cater to the needs of the students. The availability of rooms in the hostels can be checked with the college officials at the time of admission.
At GIPER, Library provide the students very healthy environment. The atmosphere of library is maintained calm and disciplined to helps students to keep very good concentration on their studies. GIPER has library divided into number of sections or departments based on the subjects taught in all the semesters for example, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Personality Development, Computers. GIPER provides the students with “BOOK BANK” facility through which the students are issued all the books for any particular semester. Besides the necessary books needed in the pharmacy curriculum GIPER also has subscriptions to various scientific journals and newsletters.
Medical room equipped with first aid equipments and facility of free regular check-up by the doctor.
